It's surprisingly easy to move around the city on bikes and scooters, as there are bike paths from Sæbraut to Perlan and from Kópavogur to the city centre. If you're feeling adventurous (and have older kids) try renting an electric scooter. Reykjavík e-scooter rentals include Hopp, Wind and Zolo.
