For those who have never experienced FlyOver, it can be hard to understand what exactly it is.
Is it a movie? A flying film? Is it like IMAX? Or 3D? Is it a ride?
While some of the above hints at what FlyOver is, none of it quite hits the mark. FlyOver isn’t just a “flying film,” nor is it a ride in the traditional sense.
Quite simply, FlyOver is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
We call it an immersive flying theatre experience, which means you sit suspended, feet dangling, in front of a 65-foot spherical screen. The seats move and combine with wind, mist and scents to create pure joy and awe. The experience surrounds you, making it feel like you truly are flying.
At FlyOver, you're not simply watching a movie on a screen—you're surrounded by it. The immersive dome experience features a state-of-the-art projection system, ultra-high resolution, and a seamless circular screen, all among the best in the world. The film unfolds in front of you, below you, and even above you, fully immersing you in the environment.
It rekindles that childhood dream of flying, letting you experience the magic of flight firsthand. This immersive experience lifts you off the ground, gliding, rolling, and soaring through breathtaking landscapes, as if you're truly taking to the skies.
Of course, the quality of the flying experience depends massively on what you’re flying over. Gliding over an endless suburb or featureless prairie would get dull pretty quickly, which is why we seek out mind-blowing locations filled with natural beauty and iconic sights.
Our Awaken Canada experience, for instance, takes guests to locations like Toronto’s CN Tower and Quebec City, as well as some remarkable spots way beyond the beaten path. Filming took our creative team to the far edges of the country, including the Yukon’s Mount Logan and Nunavut’s Baffin Island. Awaken Canada highlights many places that visitors might only ever see through the lens, so our creative team wanted to make sure it was the best view possible.
Similarly, Call of the Canadian Rockies captures the magic and power of the Rockies’ remote mountains and dramatic vistas, inspiring guests to connect with the land, spirit and Indigenous culture of one of Canada’s most iconic natural wonders. The experience spotlights areas that are unreachable to trekkers, providing a rare glimpse into the most isolated and untouched areas of the mountain range.
At the other end of the spectrum is Believe Chicago. Instead of showcasing natural wonder, it gives guests an opportunity to experience Chicago like never before. The audience weaves an impossible and continuous flight-line through Chicago. From 13,000ft above to diving straight down buildings and skimming sidewalks; from wall-riding skyscrapers, floating through fireworks, and even into buildings like the Chicago Theatre; all while choreographed action of Chicagoan lifestyle unfolds: L-trains sparking, boats ripping, car chases, sports being played, up in the airshow, and more.
FlyOver isn’t just a “ride” aimed at providing thrills and epic views. That’s part of it, of course, but it’s important to us that our experiences connect guests to the places that we showcase and tell a meaningful story.
That’s why the final act of every immersive flying experience is prefaced by a first and second that offers context to what will be seen in the main show and develops a deeper appreciation for the land and its communities.
In the first two acts of our Believe Chicago experience, for instance, stories of the people that make up the fabric of the city are introduced, set to an energetic and powerful musical score. Guests are introduced to real Chicagoans up close and living real life in their diverse communities. Stirring words heard from various Chicagoans are combined with stunning immersive cinematography from around the city.
There are a handful of similar attractions scattered across the globe, but none compares to FlyOver. Why? Because we combine storytelling with innovative filming techniques and cutting-edge technology to create an unparalleled immersive experience.
Continuing with the example of Believe Chicago, FlyOver worked with Sherpas Cinema, Revered Cinema and Gabriel Kocher (a global champion Drone Racing League pilot) to film Chicago in a way that’s never been done before. Using first-person-view (FPV) drone technology, the team captured the streets, landmarks and skyscrapers of Chicago—and even managed to pilot a drone into the iconic Chicago Theatre and onto the stage.
Similar innovative techniques were used to film our other experiences like Awaken Canada, Legendary Iceland and Wonders of the American West. With every new production, our creative team is pushing boundaries and working hard to make the experience even more immersive and awe-inspiring for guests.
The same is true of our attractions. Our construction and entertainment technology teams work hard to ensure every aspect of the experience is optimized to make the experience as immersive and awe-inspiring as possible. This is harder than it might seem. For example, the mechanical technology, designed to mimic the smooth, free-flowing flight of a bird, must be precisely synchronized with the visuals. If not done perfectly, the experience won’t be as good. Even if guests are unable to pinpoint exactly why it feels “off,” they simply would not find it as immersive.
Similarly, a lot of work goes into the scents, music and immersive spatial sound systems that accompany the visuals. These all need to augment and compliment
All of this has paid off, with FlyOver garnering multiple awards including being named one of the USA Today Best New Attractions of 2025 and a Modern Luxury Best of Luxury Award for best visitor attraction.
Ultimately, the best way to understand what FlyOver is simply to experience it for yourself. Guests routinely say that it far exceeds their expectations and that it moves them more on an emotional level than they ever anticipated.
